Joe Scoglio in rehearsal for the ballet "Field" choreographed by Cliff Keuter, Australian Dance Theatre, Adelaide 1978

This was indeed a lucky shot taken during an ADT rehearsal for Field, choreographed by Cliff Keuter. Joe wasn’t known for his rehearsal performance. For him the magic was on stage, it was not until then that he really came alive as a dancer. He was meant to be wearing a flowing long sleeved shirt that he hadn’t bothered to put on, but that helped make this image. As far as I know, he struck this stance just once in rehearsal. I could never find it again as powerfully in the following dress rehearsals or performances. This image went on to be my first 24-sheeter billboard for the ADT. It’s still amongst my favourite images from all the years with the company. After retiring from professional dance, Joe went on teaching, choreography, Shiatsu and T’ai Chi. He continues T’ai Chi and teaching in Castlemaine.
