"Bendigo Bank commissioned me to create these artworks for their Collins Street branch in the Block Arcade, Melbourne. Their long history, and connection to community, defined and inspired my vision for these time-travelling works, blending the past with the present. The original works are large 2.9m x 1.8m and you can see them behind the tellers' desks, they have really transformed the space.
Community has always been an important value to me, and I'm thrilled Bendigo Bank has been very supportive of this project to raise funds for their Community Enterprise Foundation. Last year over $6m in grants were distributed to 638 community projects across the areas of aged care, emergency services, arts & culture, infrastructure & civil, health & wellbeing, youth & education. If we can sell all our editions, it will generate $200,000 in community support*.
So let's do it! Help us make a real difference to our community. I encourage you to take action, buy an artwork and spread the word. Thank you!" (David Simmonds)
*Decisions regarding to which community projects funds raised will be directed will be made by Connected Communities Melbourne, a Community Company in which Bendigo Bank is a founding partner, and the Community Enterprise Foundation facilitates these payments. Connected Communities Melbourne supports various projects throughout Metropolitan Melbourne in the areas of youth homelessness, community safety, environment, disability, health, wellbeing & community projects. The first round of seven successful grant applicants, totalling over $67,000, were announced on 30/11/17.
